The Northwest Business Leadership Network held two job fairs for individuals with disabilities recently. The job fairs were funded through grants from Vocational Rehabilitation and the Office of Medicaid Policy and Planning. Steve Savage, the Indiana BLN project director was in attendance and talked to the employers and vendors about the benefits of becoming involved in the Business Leadership Network in the northwest region of the state. Many local businesses and vendors Participated and approximately 200 job seekers were in attendance.
In addition to the job fairs, there have been several recent meetings to develop membership to the Northwest BLN. Arc BRIDGES and the Walgreens Return Center in Valparaiso hosted the meetings. Walgreens Return Center General Manager, Monica Daniel, continues to be a leader in NW Indiana toward getting the BLN implemented. We have had interest from United Water, Oak Hill Cemetery, Indiana University and Majestic Star Casino. Matt Dilts, Managing Partner at WestPoint Financial Services in Merrillville and Walgreens in Valparaiso have consistently attended meetings to promote and support the Northwest BLN. Matt Dilts, Steve Savage, Margo Surprise and a number of job developers from the ARC Bridges have attended several job fairs, business expos and local Chamber meetings to gain membership and promote businesses hiring people with disabilities.
