BEDFORD, INDIANA COMPANY WINS NATIONAL APSE LARGE EMPLOYER AWARD

In 2008, Dunn Memorial Hospital was honored with the Indiana APSE Employer Award. In turn, their nomination qualified them for the National APSE awards.

In 2009, representatives from Stone Belt and Dunn Memorial Hospital traveled to Milwaukee, Wisconsin as winners of this year's APSE Large Employer Award.

Below is a portion of the Dunn Memorial Nomination:
Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford, Indiana has made a commitment to making every employee a success and to make sure those with disabilities are fully included in their hospital family.  Dunn hospital is very active with work study programs through the local high schools providing employment opportunities for students after graduation.  They also work with LARC Center—Stone Belt of Lawrence County in identifying people with disabilities as potential employment candidates.  The hospital is known in the community as having a very progressive perspective and embraces diversity in the workplace at the highest level.  Supported employee, Nick Parsley says “All the people at Dunn are nice.  I like folding clothes and I make better money than I ever have in my life.  I even get paid for days off.  I’m really pleased with my job and would like to work there for a long time.  I like going to the parties, dinner and root beer floats.”

OCTOBER IS DISABILITY EMPLOYMENT AWARENESS MONTH

One in every five Americans is living with a disability. During October - Disability Employment Awareness Month - the goal is to educate the public and increase awareness about employment of individuals with disabilities and the issues faced by them.

Across the state and nation, a variety of activities are planned. Watch your local media for these events.
